We are the first providers of swimming tuition in Wales to be awarded the nationally recognised STAmark of excellence.

Here is a list of some of the most frequently asked questions that we receive at Poseidon Swim School. If you cannot find the answer you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Do I need to book a place or can I just turn up?

You will need to book a place with the Office before you can join, simply ring the Office and we can tell you what places we have available.  If you require any information regarding our lessons, please fill out the Enquiry Form here.

What should I do when I arrive for the first time?

Not all our sessions have a Receptionist, if you are unsure what to do, speak to the Lifeguard on the Poolside and they will be more than happy to help.

From what age do you take children?

Children can start when you think that they are ready to take Instruction from another adult, this is normally around 3 years old.. Younger children are advised to join our Adult & Baby programme which provides a great foundation to our swimming tuition. Babies must have had all their injections for at least two weeks, prior to joining.

How and when do I pay for the lessons?

Lessons must be paid for in advance to guarantee your place. Lessons are paid for in a term, of normally 5,6 or 7 weeks. These fees are payable by the last week of the current term. Details of term times and fees payable are listed here.

My Child can't attend next term, but can you save the place?

Due to the large numbers we have on our waiting list, places cannot be held for any length of time. If you know you cannot attend for a term, please contact the Office, tell them when you wish to return and we will do everything we can to find a suitable vacancy.

I need to change my Childs lesson to another day, is this possible?

Due to the amount of pupils we have, there is a huge demand for certain session times.   We will do our best to find you a more suitable time / day / Venue, but if you require a specific day or time, you may be waiting several weeks before a place becomes available.

When will my child get their next badge?

Badges are awarded to swimmers when they are able to repeatedly do the skills required for that badge. There is no defined time scale for when this will be, as we all know, all children learn and develop new skills at different speeds.

When will my child move up a class?

When a space becomes available in the next class, the most suitable child will move up. This is not based on who has been in the class the longest,  all the children will be assessed by the Instructor and the most suitable child will move up.

What has my child done to achieve this particular Badge?

With the majority of Badges, the skills required for completion are described on the front of the Certificate.  You are welcome to have a quick chat with their Instructor at the end of the lesson, but please be brief as the next lesson must start on time.  If you wish to discuss your child's progress in more detail, please contact the Office and this can be arranged.

Do I need to tell you if I can't make a session?

If you are going to miss several lessons, maybe due to a Holiday, please tell us, even if you only mention it to the Instructor. Missed lessons cannot be refunded or made-up. Don't forget to send your fees if you are away at the end of the term to guarantee your place.

My child has been ill recently, should I still bring them to lessons?

Children should be fit and healthy on the day of their lesson. If your child has been suffering from sickness or Diarrhoea then they should not enter the water.   Diarrhoea in swimming pools is extremely serious and will result in a temporary closure. If we think your child is unwell, they will be removed from the pool.

We are going on Holiday, is my child safe in the water?

All children should be supervised at all times when in and around the water. If your child has recently come out of Arm-Bands, we recommend that they still use them and that they are supervised by you in the water.
